A message from the junior rules subcommittee regarding platform degree of difficulty

I have received a number of inquiries regarding the minimum D.D. for
summer platform events for Zones on to Nationals. At the convention in 2008, it
was voted on and passed that the minimum total degree of difficulty requirement for optional dives on tower at the Summer Zone Championship, Age Group National
Championship, and the Junior National Championship shall be determined by the
Junior Rules Subcommittee.

After consultation with the committee, it was decided that there will be no
minimum D.D. for tower events for the summer of 2009. It is strongly
encouraged that coaches use good judgment in entering an athlete in the Zone
Championships, so as to keep the quality of the event high and the practice
sessions for the events moving in an orderly and expeditious manner.

The Junior Rules Subcommittee will review this decision at the conclusion
of the season to see if a minimum difficulty needs to be set for the competitive
season in 2010. The number of athletes entered in the Zone Championships and average minimum difficulty will factor into the decision for the 2010 program.

That decision will be passed along to member clubs at the earliest possible time
to allow for appropriate planning of your 2010 season.

Again … No minimum difficulty for platform events in the summer of 2009.

Thank you and good luck this season.
