Brennan heads to women's 1-meter finals at World Championships

MELBOURNE, Australia – Allison Brennan came from behind to earn a spot in the women’s 1-meter finals at the FINA World Championships Friday.

Brennan placed third with 269.95 points in Semifinal A to advance. The top three finishers in each semi move on to the finals, which will be held at 6 p.m. (3 a.m. Eastern time) on Friday.

A pair of Russian divers also advanced out of semi A. Yuliya Pakhalina led the field with 286.95 points, and Irina Lashko was second at 283.50.

Brennan clawed her way into the finals after standing in sixth place after the first round. She eventually moved into the third spot after the fourth round, when she scored 61.20 points on her reverse 1 ½, which received six marks of 8.5 from the judges.

She was eighth in Thursday’s preliminary competition.

The qualifiers from Semifinal B are China’s He Zi (306.05), Canada’s Blythe Hartley (305.45) and Sweden’s Anna Lindberg (302.40).
