MELBOURNE, Australia – Thomas Finchum missed out on a spot in the men’s 10-meter semifinals at the FINA World Championships by the narrowest of margins Saturday evening.

The top 18 divers advance to the semifinals, and Finchum placed 19th with 382.00 points. He was less than half a point behind Italy’s Francesco Dell’uomo, who placed 18th with 342.45 points.

David Boudia scored 367.45 points to place 23rd.

China’s Zhou Luxin won the preliminary round with 537.60, and Russia’s Gleb Galperin took second at 502.05.

Boudia and Finchum will compete again Monday in the men’s 10-meter synchro competition. The pair won a silver medal in the event at last year’s World Cup.

Kelci Bryant and Nancilea (Underwood) Foster will compete in the women’s 3-meter semifinals on Sunday.
