MADRID , Spain – The United States won two medals – a silver and a bronze – in men’s synchronized diving Saturday at the FINA Grand Prix Comunidad de Madrid.

The two medals on Saturday give the U.S. four medals at the Comunidad de Madrid (with one day still to go). The U.S. has won 13 medals in three Grand Prix meets this year, already surpassing the 12 medals won over the course of seven Grand Prix meets last year.

David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Thomas Finchum (Indianapolis, Ind.) kept their synchronized 10-meter medal streak in tact by scoring 408.780 points to win the silver. China’s Yang Liguang and Zhang Chen scored 435.120 for gold. Boudia and Finchum have now medaled in their past seven international synchro competitions, winning one gold, three silvers and three bronze during that span.

Chris Colwill (Brandon, Fla.) and Jevon Tarantino (Boca Raton, Fla.) won a bronze medal in 3-meter synchro with 405.570 points. Russia’s Dmitry Sautin and Yury Kunakov took the gold with 424.290 points, edging out China’s Li Shixin and Zhang Xinhua, who took silver at 422.010. It was the second Grand Prix bronze for Colwill and Tarantino, who also took third in Fort Lauderdale last month.

Allison Brennan (Huntington Beach, Calif.) finished fifth with 305.65 points in the women’s 3-meter contest. She advanced to the finals after winning her semifinal. Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) missed the finals by just a tenth of point, scoring 312.650 in her semifinal to finish seventh overall. China’s He Zi placed first with 357.800 points.

The men’s 10-meter preliminaries also were held Saturday, and Finchum and Boudia each scored high enough to advance to Sunday’s semifinals. Finchum scored 433.70 to place fifth in the prelims, and Boudia was eighth at 396.75. The top 12 divers in the prelims advance to the semis.

Sunday’s competition also includes the women’s 3-meter synchro finals.
