Foster wins bronze on 3-meter at World Series
MEXICO CITY – Nancilea Foster (Spring, Texas) won the bronze medal in the women’s 3-meter event in the second leg at the FINA Diving World Series on Saturday.
The World Series is a three-week event featuring the top divers from the 2007 World Championships.
Foster turned in a consistent effort, scoring between 60 and 69 points on all five of her dives to finish with 323.90 points for the bronze. China’s Guo Jingjing finished with 372.90 points to win gold for the second week in a row, having also won last week in Sheffield, England. Russia’s Yuliya Pakhalina won her second silver of the World Series with 362.50 points. Foster, who placed sixth at the World Championships, was seventh last week.
Mitch Richeson (Greenwood, Ind.) and Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) also represented the United States on Saturday. They finished fifth with 391.62 points in the men’s synchronized 3-meter contest. Dumais and Richeson were in second place after four rounds, but Richeson missed his reverse 3 ½ in the fifth round to drop the team to sixth place. They turned in the second-best score of the final round with 84 points on their reverse 2 ½ with ½ twists, but it wasn’t enough to move back in the top three. World Champions Qin Kai and Wang Feng of China were first at 452.49 for their second World Series gold, and Canadians Alexandre Despatie and Arturo Miranda won their second silver with 409.68 points. The bronze went to Cuba’s Jorge Betancourt and Erick Fornaris, who finished with 400.29 points.
Saturday marked the conclusion of the second leg of the World Series. The series wraps up next week with competition in Nanjing, China, on September 15-16.
Joining Dumais, Richeson and Foster on Team USA are David Boudia ( Noblesville, Ind.) and Thomas Finchum ( Indianapolis, Ind.), who won a World Series bronze in men’s 10-meter synchro in Sheffield and finished fourth in Mexico City.
