Boudia takes second on 10-meter at CAMO meet

MONTREAL – David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) scored 500.05 points to place second in the men’s 10-meter competition Sunday at the International CAMO Invitational.

Boudia scored 102.60 points – the highest single-dive total of the contest – on his back 3 ½ pike somersault, but 2007 Pan American Games gold medalist Jose Guerra of Cuba scored straight 10s on his inward 3 ½ pike en route to the victory. Guerra finished with 517.75 points.

Great Britain ’s Peter Waterfield scored 471.40 for third place, while USA’s Nick McCrory (Chapel Hill, N.C.) took fourth at 468.85.

In other action Sunday, Boudia paired up with Thomas Finchum (Indianapolis) to take third in the synchronized 10-meter contest with 429.42 points. Great Britain’s Blake Aldridge and Thomas Daley, who were fifth and sixth respectively in the individual competition, combined for 440.10 points to take first in the synchro event. McCrory and Matt Bricker (Winter Park, Fla.) took fifth with 422.67 points.

The women’s platform events were held Saturday, with Cassandra Cardinell (Loudonville, N.Y.) scoring 337.80 points to place fourth, the highest finish among the U.S. divers. Canada’s Marie-Eve Marleau was first at 377.90, and Australia’s Loudy Wiggins scored 360.25 for second.

Haley Ishimatsu (Seal Beach, Calif.) and Mary Beth Dunnichay (Elwood, Ind.), who were eighth and 13th respectively individually, paired up for fourth in the synchronized 10-meter competition with 304.44 points. Canada’s Marleau and Emilie Heymans took first with 339.93 points.

The CAMO meet featured divers from 12 countries and doubled as a selection for Canada’s 2008 World Cup team. Many of the U.S. national team members competing at the CAMO meet will be searching for World Cup spots of their own next month, when the U.S. conducts its World Cup selection camp from January 20-24 at Columbus, Ohio.

The 2008 World Cup is scheduled for February 19-24 in Beijing and is the next opportunity to qualify spots for the 2008 Olympic Games. The U.S. earned six of a possible 12 spots at the 2007 World Championships and will be looking to firm up those remaining six spots in February.

A number of USA Diving's junior divers are also competing, with five of them earning top-six finishes during the meet's last two days. On Sunday, Casey Matthews (Getzville, N.Y.) placed third on 3-meter Group A, and Mary Ann McCain (Ballwin, Mo.) placed fourth in the Group C platform contest. Bradley Homza (Austin, Texas) was fifth on 1-meter in Group C. Saturday's highlights included two top-four finishes in the girls Group C 1-meter contest as Lillian Macrae (Sherborn, Mass.) took third and Meghan Houston (Austin, Texas) fourth.
