INSURANCE
Are USA Diving athlete members insured?
Yes. Athletes registered with USA Diving automatically receive
accident insurance for all supervised practices and sanctioned
events. The coverage pays up to $25,000 per accident and has
a $500 deductible and 70/30 coinsurance.
Registered
"novice" athletes are entitled to the same insurance benefits
for all supervised practices and sanctioned "novice" meets.
"Limited" athletes are entitled to the same insurance benefits
for all lessons. All athlete accident insurance is sports participant
and excess medical coverage.
Are
USA Diving coach and official members insured?
Yes. USA Diving member coaches and officials are automatically
covered by liability insurance. This policy covers bodily injury
and property damage. It contains $1 million primary coverage
per occurrence with no aggregate.
Are
USA Diving affiliated clubs insured?
Yes. USA Diving member clubs receive commercial general liability
insurance coverage that contains $1 million primary coverage
per occurrence with no aggregate.
Is
an athlete member serving as a summer diving instructor covered
for liability?
No. Athletes receive accident insurance coverage only. However,
he/she may obtain liability coverage by purchasing a coach membership
and becoming safety certified within USA Diving. Review the
Coach
Development section for instructions.
How
soon does the insurance coverage go into effect?
For athletes, officials and clubs, insurance goes into effect
the day the registration chair receives the correctly-typed
application and accompanying payment. For coaches, coverage
goes into effect once the paid application is received at the
national office and safety certification is verified.
How
much is the deductible on the liability insurance?
Liability insurance does not have a deductible.
Are
all the officers of my club insured?
No. Only if they join USA Diving as coaches or officials will
they be insured.
Should
I contact the insurance company directly to obtain a copy of
USA Diving's policy?
No. Call USA Diving at (317) 237-5252.
Can
I insure my training facilities under the USA Diving insurance
program?
Yes. Diving facilities used for practice sessions or competitions
may be named as additional insureds to the USA Diving commercial
general liability insurance policy at no charge. Diving clubs
should be aware that the liability coverage provided through
their club membership does not automatically extend to the above-mentioned
facilities without written request and endorsement to the policy.
The form
to use for naming additional insureds is included in the club
membership packet sent by the national office or can be found
under Downloads
(titled "Insurance, Add'l Insureds Form" under the Member Services
category). All requests for third party liability insurance
must be submitted on this form or it will be sent back by the
insurance company. Processing and delivery of the additional
insured certificate takes approximately 30 days once the application
form is received by K&K Insurance.
Am
I insured when I use the trampoline for practice?
Yes. Because trampoline is not excluded from USA Diving's policy,
it is included based on the trampoline safety guidelines found
in the USA Diving Safety Manual.
1. Clubs must be registered.
2. Divers must be registered.
3. Events must be sanctioned.
4. Practices must be supervised by a coach or an appointed representative.
5. Practices must be scheduled.
6. All athletes must use a spotting rig and harness.
How
do I file a claim?
An injured athlete should obtain a USA Diving Injury Surveillance
Questionnaire from his/her coach or club. The coach should complete
the form immediately and return it to USA Diving. Be sure to
include the athlete's name and address, as he/she is considered
the "claimant" by the insurance company.
Upon receiving
the form, USA Diving will forward it to K&K Insurance which
will then contact the claimant by mail to explain the policy
provisions and deductible.
At this time,
a "proof-of-loss" form which requests details about the accident
and the medical treatment required is sent for the claimant
to complete and return to K&K. The claimant can expect to hear
from K&K within two to four weeks after the claim is filed.
