Elite Diving Academy’s Chelsea Davis (Columbus, Ohio)
and Auburn University’s Matt Bricker (Winter Park,
Fla.) garnered victories on the final day of the U.S. Open
Diving Championships.
In the women’s 3-meter springboard event, Davis scored
7 ’s and 8’s on her final two dives to overtake
Allison Brennan (Huntington Beach, Calif.) for the gold.
Davis finished with 775.92 points to Brennan’s 764.79
points. Auburn Diving’s Ashley Rubenstein (Columbia,
Mo.) took the bronze with 727.23 points. It was the first
major senior-level title for Davis, who is a six-time junior
national diving champion.
In the men’s platform event, Bricker scored five 10’s
on his fourth round dive, a reverse 2 _ somersaults tuck,
and cruised to a 82-point victory over 16-year-old JJ Kinzbach
(The Woodlands, Texas). Bricker finished with 1,071.09 points
to Kinzbach’s 989.76 points. Auburn University’s
Steven Segerlin (Webster, N.Y.) claimed the bronze with
921.09 points.
