Janet joined USD as the director of education and safety in 1987. Prior to becoming a member of the national office team, Janet served as the head age group coach for Longhorn Diving from 1977-1986 and as a physical education teacher for The Hockaday School from 1974-1976.

She received her bachelor's degree in physical education from Indiana University in 1974 and her master's in physical education from the University of Texas in 1982.

A former competitive diver and coach, Janet dove in the 1972 Olympic Trials and was a finalist on 1-meter at the 1969, 1971 and 1975 AAU National Championships, 3-meter at the 1969 AAU National Championships and 10-meter at the 1970 and 1971 AAU National Championships. As a coach, she mentored the 1984 junior national champion on boys 13-14 platform and the 1986 junior national champion on girls 12 & under 1-meter.

Janet is the mother of one daughter, Maya.
