The daughter of Larry and Shan Dragland, Carrie has two older siblings, Heather and Adam. Carrie was a state champion gymnast before seriously beginning her diving career. She did not start diving with a club team until she was 18, at the end of her senior year in high school. She previously dove only for her school, training just two months a year and only on 1-meter. She loved the sport and wanted to continue, but because her experience was so limited (she had never been on a 3-meter or a platform) and because there are no collegiate programs in Washington, she was a virtual unknown to the college coaches and knew a scholarship was unlikely. Carrie decided to take a year off before college to gain more experience in hopes of getting a scholarship. She dove with Jim Southerland at Pacific Northwest Diving and quickly learned 3-meter and 10-meter lists. After a year of training, she had qualified for her first senior national championship meet  (she never dove at the junior level because of her late start) and signed with Alabama, where she competed for two years before transferring to the University of Miami. Carrie enjoys salsa dancing and playing beach volleyball and would love to perform in Cirque de Soleil shows when she’s finished diving competitively.
