Bryce Klein (Southlake, Texas) placed sixth in the boys group A (16-18) 3-meter final to lead Team USA on Monday, the opening day of the FINA World Junior Diving Championships in Adelaide, Australia.
Klein finished with 534.00 points, while U.S. teammate Jack Nyquist (Alpharetta, Ga.) also advanced to the finals and placed ninth with 524.40 points. 2012 Olympian Jack Laugher of Great Britain won the gold with 635.45 points, earning a 10 on his reverse 3 ½ in the finals.
Camryn Hidalgo (Mission Viejo, Calif.) advanced to the girls group B (14-15) 1-meter final and scored 287.10 for 12th place. China’s Liu Huixia took gold at 371.05. USA’s Eszter Pryor (New Albany, Ohio) was 15th after scoring 292.85 points in the preliminaries.
The FINA World Junior Diving Championships continue through October 13. Tuesday’s competition features girls A 1-meter, girls B platform, and boys A&B synchronized 3-meter.
