Johnson, Cramer advance to finals as Junior Worlds come to a close

Steele Johnson (Carmel, Ind.) and Andrew Cramer (Indianapolis, Ind.) both advanced to the boys group A platform finals Saturday, the last day of competition at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships in Adelaide, Australia.

Johnson finished 10th with 510.65 points, highlighted by an inward 3 ½ tuck that earned 78.40 points. Cramer scored 435.05 points for 12th place, with his best score coming on a front 3 ½ pike that earned 69 points. Great Britain’s 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Tom Daley dominated the contest, winning gold by more than 50 points over China’s Yang Jian. Daley finished with 663.95 points, receiving a total of 12 perfect 10s on three dives in the finals.

Estee Pryor
(New Albany, Ohio) and Madi Witt (La Canada, Calif.) competed in Friday’s girls group B preliminaries but neither advanced to the finals. Pryor finished 17th with 308.05 points, while Witt scored 300.60 to place 18th. China’s Lian Jie ended up with the gold after finishing the finals with 401.70 points.

The U.S. concluded the championships with three medals: gold from Gracia Leydon Mahoney (Newton, Mass.) in girls group A 3-meter, and bronze from David Dinsmore (New Albany, Ohio) in boys group B platform and Michael Hixon (Amherst, Mass.) in boys group A 1-meter.
