USA Wins Five Medals on Day Three of 2026 American Cup
Sophie Verzyl and Anna Kwong
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The U.S. won five medals – one gold, three silver and one bronze – on Saturday at the American Cup.
Sophie Verzyl and Anna Kwong took gold in women’s synchronized 3-meter, and Max Weinrich and Dash Glasberg earned the silver in men’s synchronized 10-meter. Luke Sitz won silver and Quinn Henninger took bronze in the individual men’s 3-meter contest, and Bayleigh Cranford added a silver in the individual women’s 10-meter event.
Kwong and Verzyl finished with 276.87 points, giving them the 3-meter synchro gold medal by 3.72 points over Great Britain’s Desharne Bent-Ashmiel and Amy Rollinson. USA's Bailee Sturgill and Lily Witte were third with 264.36, but the bronze medal went to Kseniia Bochek and Diana Karnafel of Ukraine. As the host country, the United States could enter two synchro teams, but only one could medal.
Verzyl and Kwong took the lead in the final round, overtaking Great Britain after scoring 64.26 on their front 2 ½ with 2 twists.
It was Verzyl’s second gold in two days, having been a part of the U.S. team that placed first in the mixed 3-meter and 10-meter team event on Friday.
“We did it last night in the team event and again today in synchro. It’s really spectacular to be able to do this in Fort Lauderdale,” Verzyl said.
In a close men’s 3-meter contest, Sitz scored 433.15 points to finish just 0.9 behind gold medalist Jordan Houlden of Great Britain. Henninger was a close third, finishing with 430.75 points.
Henninger set the pace in the final round with 91.20 points on his front 4 ½ tuck. Sitz responded with 85.75 points on a reverse 1 ½ with 3 ½ twists to close out his list. He also scored 83.60 points on his front 4 ½ tuck in the fifth round.
“There was a lot of pressure going into the last dive. I knew I’d have to hit it to have a chance at the podium. Quinn nailed his 109 (front 4 ½ tuck), and it really put the pressure on and kind of forced me to perform,” Sitz said.
“There was a lot of energy in the whole meet, especially in that sixth round when everybody started hitting dives. I feel like everybody started motivating each other and allowed for a great round,” Henniger said.
USA’s Jack Ryan and Max Flory also advanced to the 3-meter final. Ryan finished fifth with 413.80 and ended his list with an 83.60-point front 4 ½ tuck. Flory placed ninth with 383.70 points, ending with 79.95 points on his front 2 ½ with 3 twists.
Cranford medaled individually on 10-meter for the second week in a row. After picking up a 10-meter bronze at the Canada Cup last week, she came through with 321.50 for the American Cup silver. Great Britain’s Eden Cheng topped the field at 340.20, and Canada’s Eloise Belanger scored 317.95 points for bronze.
Cranford was in third heading into the last round but moved up to second after finishing with 76.50 points on her reverse 3 ½ tuck.
“There’s a reason I put that dive last," she said.
Three other U.S. divers were in the women’s 10-meter final. Ella Roselli placed fourth at 312.00, Sophie McAfee took fifth with 304.15, and Evelyn Wang scored 224.30 for 12th.
Weinrich and Glasberg finished the men’s 10-meter synchro event with 355.38 points, including 72.96 points on an inward 3 ½ tuck to pick up the silver. They closed out their list with 65.28 points on a back 1 ½ with 2 ½ twists.
“That last dive is one we struggle with in training sometimes, and we knew we had to execute it well and we did it,” Weinrich said.
Ukraine’s Oleskii Sereda and Mark Hrytsenko scored 390.60 for gold, with bronze going to Great Britain’s Noah Williams and Noah Penman at 350.70. USA’s Misha Andriyuk and Tyler Wills finished fourth with 334.35 points, highlighted by a back 3 ½ tuck that earned 80.19 points.
The American Cup concludes Sunday with finals in men’s synchronized 3-meter, women’s synchronized 10-meter, women’s individual 3-meter and men’s individual 10-meter along with men’s and women’s high diving.
