USA Diving Announces Roster for World Aquatics Diving World Cup - Montreal
by USA Diving
USA Diving has announced the 12 divers who will compete for Team USA at a World Aquatics Diving World Cup meet in Montreal from May 5-7.
Seven Olympians, including three medalists, are among the divers who will represent the United States.
Delaney Schnell (Tucson, Ariz.) and Jessica Parratto (Dover, N.H.) will compete together for the first time since winning the silver medal in the synchronized 10-meter event at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Schnell will also dive in the individual 10-meter event in Montreal.
Andrew Capobianco (Holly Springs, N.C.), who won silver with Michael Hixon in synchronized 3-meter at the 2020 Olympic Games, will compete with his new partner, Quinn Henninger (Denver, Colo.), in Montreal. Capobianco will also compete individually on 3-meter.
2020 Olympians Tyler Downs (Ballwin, Mo.) and Hailey Hernandez (Southlake, Texas) will compete in individual 3-meter events in Montreal, and Brandon Loschiavo (Huntington Beach, Calif.) will dive in the individual 10-meter event. 2016 Olympian Kassidy Cook (The Woodlands, Texas) will dive in synchronized 3-meter with Sarah Bacon (Indianapolis, Ind.).
Bacon will also dive in the individual 3-meter event, and Nike Agunbiade (Pacifica, Calif.) will compete in the individual 10-meter contest. Zach Cooper (Greenwood, Ind.) will dive individually on 10-meter and will also pair up with Max Flory (Fairfax, Va.) in synchronized 10-meter.
The World Aquatics Diving World Cup is a new competition system in place for 2023 and 2024. The World Cups will have three stops each year, with qualification for the first two meets based on a score standard. Individual events will consist of preliminaries and finals, and synchronized and team events will be finals only. Results from the first two World Cup meets will determine invitations to the third stop, the World Aquatics Diving World Cup Super Final.
After the meet in Montreal, the U.S. divers will gear up for the 2023 USA Diving National Championships from May 17-24 in Morgantown, W.V. The nationals will be used to the select the U.S. team for this summer’s World Aquatics Championships, which will be the first opportunity for countries to secure quota spots for next year’s Olympic Games.
