Biography:

Deidre is the daughter of Will and Evelyn Freeman, who coach track and cross country at Grinnell College. Her father represented the U.S. internationally in pole vaulting and attended Olympic trials while her mother competed in the Canadian Olympic trials.  Deidre is married to Jordan Huff, and she has two siblings, Cameron and Nicolette. Deidre began diving when she was 14 and was also a softball player in high school (she was an all-state catcher). Freeman almost gave up diving to play softball in college but ultimately chose diving and the University of Iowa, where she learned her 3-meter list (she was primarily a 1-meter diver in high school and did not dive on the club circuit).

After graduating from Iowa, Freeman moved back home to Grinnell (approximately 70 miles from Iowa City). She worked as a dance instructor at Michelle's Dance Academy and was the diving coach at Grinnell College while also making the daily commute to and from Iowa City to continue her own training. In the fall of 2014, Freeman moved back to Iowa City to focus full time on training. Her favorite dives is 305B (reverse 2 1/2 pike). She trained with the Spanish National Team in 2009 when she spent a semester studying abroad in Madrid. She says her most important training strategy is making sure to take time off to rest and find balance in life. She likes to read in between dives, and a competition days, she likes to eat eggs, an apple and coffee.

Her father competed in two U.S. Olympic Team Trials as a pole vaulter, and her mother twice competed as a high jumper at Canada's Olympic Trials.

She enjoys cooking and baking healthy recipes, reading, hiking, cycling and road-tripping. She loves cats and would love to become a travel journalist.

She is a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Iowa and, she will begin a new job as diving coach at Colgate University in July, 2016.
