ElliReese Niday sweeps girls’ 11-and-under age group, three additional junior champions named

ElliReese Niday of Moss Farms Diving swept the girls’ 11-and-under age group after winning the 1-meter title Wednesday at the 2022 USA Diving Junior National Championships at COM Aquatics in Midland, Texas.

 

Mallory Worobel of Woodlands Diving Academy picked up her second gold of the week with her 12-13 girls’ 1-meter win. Tanner Tessier (Triad Diving Academy) won the 11-and-under boys' 3-meter contest, and Leyton Dean of RipFest won the 12-13 boys’ platform title.

 

Niday won her third gold of the week to pick up her fourth career junior national title and first on 1-meter after placing third in 2021. Niday scored 246.90 points to win in dominating fashion. Hannah McLaughlin of the Woodlands Diving Academy and Presley Blair of GC Diving tied with 218.30 for silver. McLaughlin also won silver medals on 3-meter and platform earlier in the week.

 

Tessier won his first junior national title with 253.45 points in the boys’ 11-and-under 3-meter contest. Owen Stebbins of Los Angeles Dive Club scored 234.80 points for silver, and Beck Gregory of Moss Farms Diving scored 223.45 points for the bronze. Gregory won platform and Stebbins took first on 1-meter earlier in the championships.

 

Worobel won her third career junior national title with 318.30 points in the 12-13 girls’ 1-meter event after winning 3-meter on Monday. Sophia Borowski of GC Diving scored 304.35 points for silver, and Christina Xu of Rose Bowl Aquatics scored 296.50 points for bronze.

 

Dean scored 346.55 points in the 12-13 boys’ platform event to win the platform title for the second year in a row. Clavadistas del Sol’s Mikolas Schwickert took silver with 306.75 points, and Rydan Russell of ACES Diving finished third at 296.95.

 

Wednesday marked the end of competition in the 11-and-under and 12-13 age groups. Thursday is the start of competition in the 14-15 and 16-18 age groups, with 12 more junior national titles still to be awarded at the 2022 Junior National Championships.
