Andrew Capobianco advanced to and competed in the Men’s 3-Meter Finals today at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Capobianco, who had earned a silver medal earlier in the week in the synchronized competition with Michael Hixon, advanced to finals after qualifying 17th in the semifinal round earlier in the day.

Capobianco started his final list of 6 dives with a forward 2 ½ somersaults 2 twists pike, scoring 8’s for a total of 81.6 points, making it his highest scoring dive of the day. He remained in the top 5 through the second round but due to some errors in his third and fourth rounds he dropped to 10th place.

Capobianco, who has been struggling with a back injury, ended his Olympic Games feeling proud and grateful to have gained experience and perspective from his two competitions.

“This afternoon didn’t go as well as I had hoped it would,” said Capobianco, “But, I’m really proud of how I’ve handled myself over the past few weeks. It’s been a little bit of a struggle with me mentally and physically. I had a little bit of a back injury coming into this and just learning how to push through it. I’m a little bit relieved and excited for some rest, but overall, I’m feeling very confident leading into 2024 and I’m really excited to see what I can do.”

Competition continues tomorrow with the preliminary round of the Women’s 10-Meter platform in which Delaney Schnell, who earned Silver in the synchronized competition last week, will compete along with 2016 Olympian Katrina Young.
