Palmer and Hernandez to compete in 3-Meter Prelims at Tokyo Olympics

Krysta Palmer and Hailey Hernandez will compete in the preliminary round of the Women’s 3-Meter Springboard event of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on Friday July 30, 2021 at 3:00 pm local time/ 2:00 am EST.

 

Palmer, who competed earlier this week in the synchronized 3-meter competition, earned her spot in the Individual event by winning the event at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials- Diving by over 85 points. Hernandez, one of two 18-year-old athletes on the U.S. Olympic Diving Team, earned her spot through her consistency throughout the trials remaining in the second position throughout the entire event.

 

Palmer and Hernandez will compete with 25 other athletes from around the world in the preliminary round of the competition with 18 advancing into Saturday’s semifinal round. From there, 12 divers will go on to Sunday’s Finals for an opportunity to vie for a spot on the Olympic podium.

 

The event will be broadcast live on USA Network as well as NBCOlympics.com beginning at 2:00am EST. Palmer will be the fourth diver of 27 to compete while Hernandez will start 17th. Palmer is one of only two divers, alongside Canada’s Pamala Ware, to be performing a dive over a 3.1 degree of difficulty in the preliminary round with her final dive, a double-out.
