Final six divers advance to semifinals from Junior Nationals preliminary competition

Preliminary competition in the 14-15 and 16-18 age groups at the 2022 USA Diving Junior National Championships finished Saturday at COM Aquatics in Midland, Texas.

 

The top six divers in each preliminary advanced to the semifinals, where they will be joined by divers who qualified directly into the semis based on results at Zone Championships.

 

Grant Hester of GC Diving was the top finisher in the boys’ 14-15 1-meter preliminary, with teammate Oscar Preas advancing in second place.

Violet Williamson of Knight Diving Academy qualified first in the girls’ 16-18 3-meter preliminary, and Chloe Sharpe of Woodlands Diving Academy took second.

 

Emma Rhines of COM Aquatics was the top qualifier out of the 14-15 girls’ platform preliminary. Gianna Kenrick of Rose Bowl Aquatics finished second.

 

Jack Clark of Santa Clara Diving Club led the boys’ 16-18 platform preliminary. Nolan Rooker of   Mission Viejo took second.

 

The corresponding semifinals and finals for Saturday’s preliminary events will take place on Tuesday, August 2, the final day of competition at the USA Diving Junior National Championships.

 

Sunday’s competition features semifinals and finals in 14-15 boys’ 3-meter, 16-18 boys’ 3-meter, 14-15 girls’ 1-meter, and 16-18 girls’ platform. The competition also will be used to select divers to the 2022 FINA World Junior Championships Team.
