He came back strong with 76.00 points on a front 4 ½ somersaults tuck and 79.95 on a front 2 ½ somersaults with three twists to move up to 13th place, just 2.7 points shy of a spot in the finals in his first World Championships.

Friday also marked the start of women’s 3-meter competition, with Verzyl scoring 307.15 points to qualify in third place for Saturday’s semifinal. Verzyl scored more than 60 points on four of her five dives, including 69.50 points on her front 2 ½ with two twists. She was one of only two divers to do that dive.

She scored 60 points on her first dive, a front 2 ½ with one twist and added 58.50 points on a front 3 ½ somersaults tuck. Earlier in the week, Witte made finals in synchronized 3-meter, placing seventh with Bailee Sturgill.
