Team USA picked up two fourth-place finishes as diving events got underway Saturday at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

Hailey Hernandez (Southlake, Texas) placed fourth in the women’s 1-meter final, and the United States also finished fourth in the mixed 3-meter/10-meter team event.

Hernandez advanced to the 1-meter finals at the World Aquatics Championships for the third time, with fourth place being her best finish. She was sixth in 2024 and seventh in 2023.

Hernandez scored 270.45 points, just .35 points behind bronze medalist Chiara Pellacani of Italy. Australia’s Maddison Keeney scored 308.00 points for gold, and China’s Li Yajie was second at 290.25.

Hernandez was consistent throughout the final. She scored no lower than 51.60 points on any of her five dives, with her forward 2 ½ somersault pike receiving 58.50 points.

Anna Kwong (Omaha, Nebraska) also competed 1-meter and finished 30th with 215.35 points in the preliminary as she made her World Championships debut.

Jack Ryan (Denver, Colo.), Carson Tyler (Moultrie, Ga.), Sophie Verzyl (Columbia, S.C.) and Daryn Wright (Plainfield, Ind.) represented Team USA in the mixed team event and finished fourth with 404.90 points. China won gold, with Mexico claiming silver and Japan bronze. In the mixed team event, teams must compete on both 3-meter and 10-meter, with two individual dives and one mixed synchronized dive performed at each height. All six groups of dives must be included. Ryan and Verzyl led the U.S. with 76.50 points on their synchronized forward 2 ½ somersault with two twists from 3-meter.  Tyler added 72 points on an armstand double back somersault with 2 ½ twists from 10-meter, and he and Wright paired up for 75.20 points on a synchronized inward 3 ½ tuck from 10-meter.

Diving events at the World Aquatics Championships run through August 3. Sunday’s competition includes Nick Harris and Lyle Yost in men’s 1-meter competition (The preliminary is set for 9 p.m. ET on Saturday, with the final at 5:30 a.m. ET on Sunday). Bayleigh Cranford and Tyler Wills will compete mixed synchronized 10-meter (3 a.m. ET). Competition will be streamed on Peacock.
