2025 World Aquatics Championships: Men's 10-meter synchro medalists - Gold, China; Silver, Neutral Athletes; Bronze, USA

Carson Tyler (Moultrie, Ga.) and Joshua Hedberg (Noblesville, Ind.) won bronze in men's synchronized 10-meter Tuesday at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

Bailee Sturgill (Noblesville, Ind.) and Lily Witte (Dexter, Mich.) were seventh in Tuesday’s women’s synchronized 3-meter contest.

Hedberg and Tyler came from behind to win bronze with 410.70 points. China’s Cheng Zilong and Zhu Zifeng scored 429.63 points for gold, while Neutral Athletes Nikita Shleikher and Ruslan Ternovoi finished with 428.70 points for silver.

“It means a lot. It’s been a long road of training, coming back from the Olympics. We really put a lot of effort into this medal, so it means a ton,” said Tyler, who competed individually on 3-meter and 10-meter at the Olympic Games last summer. “It’s definitely a big accomplishment for me.”

Tyler and Hedberg were in fifth place at the halfway point of the contest. Their fourth-round front 4 ½ somersault tuck scored 79.92 points to move them up to fourth, and they then scored 80.58 points on a reverse 3 ½ somersault tuck to move into the bronze medal position with one round to go.

They maintained their position in the standings with 79.92 points on their final dive, a back 2 ½ somersault with 2 ½ twists.

“This is my first senior world medal, and I can’t be happier. I think we just tried to step it up for the finals, dive when it counts, and just perform our best,” Hedberg said.

Their performance marked a turnaround from 2024 and gave the United States its first World Championships medal in men’s synchronized 10-meter since David Boudia and Thomas Finchum’s silver in 2009.

Tyler and Hedberg were 14th in men's 10-meter synchro at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships, and the U.S. missed out on a spot in the Olympic Games in that event.

Hedberg recently moved to Bloomington, Ind., where he will be a freshman at Indiana University this fall.

“We just started training together at the same location this season. That’s been really helpful, building chemistry, having the same coach. That’s been really beneficial,” said Tyler, a five-time NCAA champion for the Hoosiers.

Sturgill and Witte made their World Championships debut and finished with 261.18 points for seventh in the women’s synchronized 3-meter final. They scored 60.30 points on a front 2 ½ somersault with one twist and added 57.12 points on their back 2 ½ somersault tuck.

China’s Chen Jia and Chen Yiwen won gold with 325.20 points, followed by Great Britain’s Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen (298.35) and Mexico’s Lia Cueva and Mia Cueva (294.36).

The World Aquatics Championships continue through August 3. Wednesday’s competition begins with USA’s Bayleigh Cranford and Ella Roselli in the women’s 10-meter preliminaries (10 p.m. ET on Tuesday). Kyndal Knight and Luke Hernandez will dive in the mixed synchronized 3-meter finals (5 a.m ET). Finals are being streamed on Peacock, and preliminaries are also available on Peacock through the Team USA TV channel.
