2021 Summer World University Games Cancelled
by USA Diving
The FISU Executive Committee has announced the cancellation of the 2021 Summer World University Games in Chengdu, China. This decision, while extremely disappointing for our student-athletes, contemplates the significant complexities associated with large scale global travel and competition during the pandemic, and represents a commitment to ensuring the health and safety of all.
In the coming days FISU will negotiate with the Organizing Committee in Chengdu, to determine the feasibility of an event in 2022, and the parameters under which such an event might occur. If the Organizing Committee agrees to this possibility, dates will be determined by the FISU Executive Committee during its next meeting in May. Once we receive confirmation, USIUSF will assess the circumstances and determine to what extent US student-athletes will be able to participate and in what sports. At that time, we will start the process of identifying teams.
We know this news is not what you hoped to hear, and we understand and share your disappointment. As we move through the next several months, we hope circumstances will improve and that important competitions like this will return in the near future. Thank you for your understanding.
