USA Advances in Women's 10-Meter; Knight/Hernandez 7th in Mixed Synchro at World Championships

Kyndal Knight (Stanley, N.C.) and Luke Hernandez (Holly Springs, N.C.) placed seventh in mixed synchronized 3-meter and Bayleigh Cranford (Jamestown, N.C.) and Ella Roselli (Newport Beach, Calif.) advanced in women’s 10-meter on Wednesday at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.
Cranford placed 10th with 302.45 points and Roselli finished 11th with 292.50 in the women’s 10-meter preliminaries to qualify for Thursday’s semifinal. China’s Chen Yuxi led the preliminary field with 396.50 points.
Knight and Hernandez scored 267.60 points in the mixed synchronized 3-meter final, highlighted by an inward 2 ½ somersaults pike that earned 65.70 points. Italy’s Chiara Pellacani and Matteo Santoro came away with gold in a close contest, scoring 308.13 points to edge Australia’s Maddison Keeney and Cassiel Rousseau by .87 points for gold. China’s Cheng Zilong and Li Yajie scored 305.76 points for bronze.
The World Aquatics Championships continue through August 3. Men’s 3-meter competition kicks off Thursday with preliminaries (9 p.m. ET on Wednesday). Collier Dyer will make his World Championships debut, while Max Flory, competing in his third World Championships, will dive in a springboard event for the first time. Cranford and Roselli will compete in the women’s 10-meter semifinals (3:30 a.m. ET), with the final set for that evening (6:15 a.m. ET). Finals are being streamed on Peacock.
