USA Diving Announces Board of Director Openings and Elections Effective 2022
by USA Diving
USA Diving will be conducting 2021 elections in December for four positions on its Board of Directors. All voting will be done electronically.
The composition of the board of directors has been restructured to allow for 33 percent athlete representation beginning in 2022. The new board composition will consist of eight independent directors, five athlete directors, one coach director and one affiliate director.
Eligible athletes will elect three board members. To accommodate for the additional athlete positions, the previous at-large director position on the board has been eliminated and the two coach director positions have become one position. Two athlete positions are new positions. A third elected athlete will serve as an athlete director and alternate USOPC AAC representative now that Lauren Reedy has moved into the AAC representative position.
Current coach members will elect one coach director. The two coach directors currently on the board are both eligible to run, and nominations will also be accepted for additional candidates wishing to serve.
The pool of athletes eligible to serve has increased. Any diver who represented the United States at an Olympic Games, Pan American Games or World Championships at any time is now eligible to run for election as a 10-year-plus athlete. Previously, athletes were limited to running only within a 10-year period after their competition. Additionally, the criteria for athletes who are still within the 10-year window has been expanded to include athletes who have competed at FINA Grand Prix and World Series meets, World University Games or select national events including Olympic Trials and World Championships trials in the past 10 years.
Nominations will be accepted through December 13.
Candidates interested in running should complete a nominee information form and conflict of interest statement and return to elections@usadiving.org. Questions may be directed to this email as well.
Eligible voters will be notified by a separate email and will also receive candidate information. Voting will open on December 20 and will close at 5 p.m. ET on December 23.
