Eighty-two masters divers competed at the 2022 Masters Diving Summer Championships in Novato, California from August 12-14.

The Summer Masters Championships had divers competing in age groups ranging from 21-24 to 90-and-up. Divers competed in 1-meter, 3-meter, platform, synchronized, and mixed synchronized events. Masters Diving requires voluntaries in all age categories for regular competition, but there are only voluntary DD maximums.

Robert Sherman (Sherman Divers), age 94, was the only diver to compete in the 90 & up age group.

Julia Vincent (Kentucky Diving Club) won both springboard events in the masters 25-29 age group and also won the 21-34 synchronized women’s event.  Lisa Meller (Mission Viejo) won all her individual competitions (50-54 women and platform 50-59) including winning Grand Masters #3.

The men’s 55-59 1-meter age group had the most competitors, and diver Alexander Lapidus (Mission Viejo) won the event with a score of 352.20.  Eric Bomberger (East Coast Masters Diving) placed second with a score of 338.50, and George McGann (East Coast Masters Diving) won bronze with a score of 328.05.

New leaders were elected to the Masters Diving Committee during their annual athlete meeting. Terms run from September 2022-2024, and members include Heather Carrano (Chair), David Cotton (Vice Chair Rules), Ron Kontura (Vice Chair Recording), and Mark Timko (Athlete-at-Large).
