Six divers in each preliminary advance to semifinals

Competition at the 2022 USA Diving Junior National Championships continued Friday with four more preliminary events in the 14-15 and 16-18 age groups at COM Aquatics in Midland, Texas.

 

The top six divers in each preliminary advanced to the semifinals, where they will be joined by divers who qualified directly into the semis based on results at Zone Championships.

 

Lawson Greenwald of Woodlands Diving Academy was the top finisher in the boys’ 14-15 3-meter preliminary, with Mitchell Caldwell of American Flyers Diving advancing in second place.

Veronica Fong, diving unattached, qualified first in the girls’ 16-18 platform preliminary, and Elena Yeh of Rose Bowl Aquatics took second.

 

Aoi Kondo of Alpha Diving Club was the top qualifier out of the 14-15 girls’ 1-meter preliminary. Elizabeth Brewer of Germantown Academy Dive Club finished second.

 

Luke Forester of RipFest led the boys’ 16-18 3-meter preliminary. Three divers from the Alexandria Dive Club – Tyler Read, Matthew Bray and Jacob Fisher – also finished among the top six to earn their spots in the semifinals.

 

The corresponding semifinals and finals for Friday’s preliminary events will take place Monday, August 1.

 

Preliminaries in 14-15 girls’ platform, 14-15 boys’ 1-meter, 16-18 girls’ 3-meter and 16-18 boys’ platform are set for Saturday. The 2022 USA Diving Junior National Championships continue through August 2.
